Garth McQueen 11/12/2003 09:01 AM Least we not forget...the message of the day and the words for tomorrow. Yes, let us not forget that we are still playing well and continue to be solid. A few things continue to battle against us, especially the Scheduler of Wellands Industrial Leaque. However, playing on Tuesday night (Ladies Night) certainly didn't do our team any favours. I am not sure , Mark, wether it is just Pt.Colborne or what, but a few things were apparent last night. I believe the ladies were a distraction for a few younger members of the team. Even though we were on sheet 1, I found that for about 5 ends I never had the chance to make eye contact with our Skip. His wondering eye seached endlessly through the many teams, looking for some bright light to inspire him on. From what I saw, there was little inspiratoin to be found. And then the lead.... all primped and pumped with his new broom. Seeking to demonstrate his prowess on the sheets, he unexplicably began cleaning his stones (obviously becoming a seasoned player). However, it appeared he was caressing (not cleaning) his stone while admiring another player (in blue to be exact) on the next sheet...Yep you guessed it..his shot rocketed down the ice...I think the motion caused a disturbance in his stance. I think he SPRUNG into action a little to heavy. Needless to say, we don't like playing golf on Tuesdays and we don't like curling then either. On to the oppostion... a quick summary of their accomplishments will give you the inside track to how the game went. Opposition Team: Dillion 2002-2003 Record - A FLIGHT Champions 2003-2004 Record to date - had yet to complete a full game and had a total of 10 ends completed with their undeafeated record so far. As I indicated earlier, we played a fairly consistent game, keeping all the ends to 1 point ...except for our traditional 3 that we gave up early. We worked them hard, but when their Skip is a coach for a couple of curling teams, it was too much for us to keep them off the score sheet. Why we even blanked the 7th (just like on TV) in order to go for the win in the 8th. It was just not to be. End result Dillion 7 - CTFS 3 , Dillion 4.5 ends and CTFS 3.5 ends. This was a good test for us because this Thursday we go up against the Team that is right behind these guys in the standings. Mike says you don't stand a chance in winning. But I think the pressure of getting that 1st win is preying on him. However, he just loved that broom and was amazed with the difference between the drummy brooms. A telling moment was towards the end when someone questioned why Mauro is skip...the answer was not given but I will write it down now... "The reason Mauro is skip, is because he's the best we got and We are Men with (our own) Brooms" We suck, but there are a lot worst teams than us that are yet to taste the sting of our greatness. We won't be "F" flight champions for just any reason, it will be because we didn't give up....ONWARD. Todays Curling inspirational picture: Caption reads "Oh Oh, he's rubbing his 8 ender again" nb: notice the fear in their eyes Mark Pioli 11/12/2003 01:09:19 PM A telling moment was towards the end when someone questioned why Mauro is skip... What the team didn't gang up on this person Italian style and pummel him, I am disappointed in the lack of emotion extended to this person. What this teams needs is a team dinner to try to regroup before the dog days of winter set in Rex Nov 20 prior to 7:00 start.....if by some chance the Scheduler of Wellands Industrial League have switched this to Monday at 1:00 pm we will do a liquid lunch. Due to the bad vibes from the winless streak it might be best if Mike doesn't attend we will send him the minutes from the dinner in the following edition of the Pioli papers.
