Garth McQueen 04/19/2004 08:49:14 AM Mark: You told me Saturday morning that we all were on a journey and that we should always learn from our mistakes. I have pondered on those words since that time and have concluded that Beer really doesn't destroy brain cells and in fact you are MOST correct. And why do I say this: 1. In a year where we went winless for over a month .....we were still playing Saturday 2. In a year when a new recruit wanted to change the skip after one game.....we were still playing Saturday 3. In a year when our record didn't even reach 500 ...we were still playing Saturday 4. In year when we were dead last in our flight (having failed to reached the coveted D flight)...we were still playing Saturday.... BUT...as I said everytime....we were still playing well ...and well, we were still playing Saturday (pretty catchy eh!!) It was last Thursday that we were crunched by our nemesis - CHEERS - in what could only be determined as Sound Thrashing!!. It was so bad we didn't even think we were going to make it to Saturday. But oh yes, baby, this is a journey. So we show up Saturday morning and find we are playing CAA who happened to be close to the top in our flight. It just happened I had to be in Buffalo for 4 am and as it turned out it was the time Mauro decided to go to bed, so we had the potential to be a little sleepy out of the gate. And sleep we did...... it was the end of the 5th end, we were down 7-3 and had only taken one end (the third). We all shook hands amongst ourselves for we thought it was surely over, but oh no, we forgot we were on that journey. The 6th end we scored some points, then the 7th we stole to get within 2 and then my God we stole the 8th to tie. The journey had now taken us to overtime ...yikes,,,,,without the hammer. So once again we shook hands amongst ourselves for again we thought it was over.. Well that journey just didn't want to quit and after a marathon 2hrs and 45 mins we stole the 9th and were on our way to the big dance against CHEERS. Now since we only had a 15 min gap we didn't get in much trouble and really, we never cooled down, so we were hot as a pistol. We stormed into the finals taking the first two ends. We felt pretty good about that and we were definitely outplaying the competition. Now about the 4th end they tied up the score by taking three so we shook hands amongst ourselves, once again, for we saw what has happened in the past and figured it was Tout Finis (all over for the unilinguals). Well Mark, this is a journey as you said and the journey never ends to till that last step and our last step was to eniliate CHEERS over the next 4 ends. Hey we finally got to throw a rock through the house to start the eighth (on purpose). We only had to run them out of 4 rocks to clinch the win. Leave that to the Niagara Falls boys, we're best at making things disappear (and I mean more than beer). I will report I had the honour to throw the last rock for our team in our championship game....and then this time we did a high five, because we were exhausted from shaking hands. CTFS C flight champions,,,wear the moniker well and remember you not a loser any longer. We are Men with Brooms at the top of the heap. It was a year that saw many peaks and valleys. All played an important role throughout the year. It was definitely a team win and it was a team all year. Congrats Boys, it was truly a memorable year. PS...we probably still stink but heh, we're C Flight Champs
