Garth McQueen/CTAL/CTC 02/25/2005 08:52 AM Subject: Pioli Papers - Feb 24 On any giving Sunday, the very worst can beat the very best. We're not either but it pretty wells describes what happened last night Mark. Outside the Pizza and Wings we had, I can't think of too much else that was good. Of course, that would be outside the excellent performance of the front end once again (and therefore deserved the pizza and wings). Maybe it all started when we looked at the standings and saw that the lowly 39th place Legion was daring to even show up against the mighty 7th place Man team from CTFS. Or perhaps it showed how wily these finely crafted CTFS curlers had become. Knowing how close we were to B division, I think our skip Bruce decided to play a new game. Mark, it was amazing...he crafted out a plan that would take us through the paces as if we were in a real championship game....tight scores, lots in play and the game going back and forth. Why Mark, he actually called the 7th end in the exact fashion of the virtual game. It was breathtaking.....wait a minute,,,, no, it was breathe taking because of all the sweeping involved. . Trying to take Bruce's take out shots over the hog line really had us working hard. I guess we should thank Bruce for his strategy for that's as close as we'll come to Super Saturday. I guess we forgot , we win when the other team doesn't. Sound philisophical but it's true...when we make shots we don't always win,,but when the other team doesn't ....we always win. On to the game: Stats: CTFS - 3 - Legion 4 Ends CTFS-3.5 Legion 4.5 Lead, Second, Third, Skip --- who cares Well Mark, we thought we were off to a good start when we had some fortunate bounces (and we thank ye Mark) in the first 2 ends. It ended up 1-1 after two and we were pretty much on key. Lots and lots of rocks in play - 16 in the two ends. After 2 we should have noticed a slight shift in the momentum. They ended up stealing one when a tricky shot from our skip just missed. Again, there was another tricky shot by skippy but everyone felt we were still in the game and by gosh after 6 it was 3-3 with everyone only taking a single point. Well Mark, I guess you and I took things into our own hands and set up the virtual game in the 7th. We had a the house split, divided and covered going into Skip rocks. Like Golf, Mark there are Gods that oversee the ebb and flow of the game. I am not sure when Bruce pissed in their cornflakes, but the Legion's second skip rock double tapped and bouced into shot position. As I stated before, the house was divided, split and covered...maybe if Bruce had picked up his rock and carried down he could have made it....however, he conferred stongly with Quad boy. You could see the heavy thinking, the smoke was raising higher than the back wheels of a drag racer...but just like the car... a lot of spinning an not much happening. The shot was called and Bruce attempted to bump out shot rock with another tricky come around. Bravo, Bruce...you hit the rock, but it sat their prouder than your Saturday morning blanket buldge. Game over, we lose, they steal one....CTFS go home. On any given Sunday, any team can beat any other. Too bad we only play on Thursday. Mark Pioli/CTAL/CTC 02/25/2005 12:20 PM "The mental part of the game is huge -- it can determine the outcome of a game." Not since Larry Walker threw the ball into the stands after 2 outs thinking it was the 3rd out have I seen mental errors like last night. First Garth going into the foyer to drink his beer, after he finished it in the previous end. Come on Garth no more mental mistakes like that. Second Bruce("THE SKIP") thinking we had last rock when in fact the other team did. Come on Bruce no more mental mistakes like that. Mauro and I made no mental errors. Garth McQueen/CTAL/CTC 02/25/2005 01:27 PM Only when you posses something can you hope to achieve "error".... Mauro, Mark, Mental Error - new group called the M&M's.
