Garth McQueen/CTAL/CTC 03/03/2005 10:59 AM Subject Pioli Papers - Special Edition - The Match Well Mark, the Match took place last night and through all of the lead up and post game, we (the C FLIGHT CHAMPIONS) remain very proud of our aspiring curling fans the CTFS ROCKS. With high hopes and tons of energy, they choose a development path that will help them to improve. And Mark, I am sure, over time they will improve. Seasoned curlers like ourselves, know full well, this sport is difficult and only the very best rise to be Flight Champions. But bravo for our younger competitors,,,,it was not wrong for them to want to take on the best. We should always encourage these students to dream. Game Stats by end 1-Rocks(2), 2-Rock(1) 3-CTFS (5) 4,5,6,7- CTFS (1each) 8-Rocks (1) Final score CTFS-9 Rocks-4 Mark: We followed our usual pregame for a non 5oclock start and meandered down to the King of Pizza(The Rex). Mauro was suffering badly from a cold and therefore almost ran the place out of ICE TEA (along with Bruce). But Mike and I held our time honor tradition up high and quaffed down the appropriate number of beers including 2 more at the Ice Palace. And as usual, it took a few ends for the cold temperatures to fight through the beer to wake us up. The Rocks took 2 points in the first end which was the front ends fault ( well ok, it was my fault). We were still a little blurred eye so didn't catch what was going on. It didn't help when there entire team didn't miss a shot. That seemed to give them confidence going into the second where they stole a point (they didn't see the change coming by the way), which caused Richard W to let out a whelp of joy. Sounded like the same whelp when I hit him in the end zone before the game with my broom. At any rate, they were pretty pumped after 2 ends sitting 3-0. It must of felt like a "Spring Swing" in golf where everything goes right at the beginning and then you think you know what you're doing.... that was them... For us, we put aside the blur of the suds and quickly started to mount a hard hitting attack (Mark, it felt like the virtual game in the 3 rd). Setting up on the top right corner, we just started splitting rocks into the house one after another. This left Bruce to make a nice draw for 5 and with that we saw a dying spirit rise into the rafters of the Welland Curling Club. Like the movie Ghost, the Rocks were clobbered by the train and though they thought they were alive they soon found how dead they were. Hard sweeping and keen shot making allowed us to steal the next 4 ends. Mark, we swept our butts off.. so much so, I was out drank by Bruce. No that's tired!!. For the life of me (and it almost was), there was a distinct lightness in the shots of our Pt. Colborne members. I am not sure if they changed the draft beer at the City or the city water supply was drained of iron, but these two pounded on the sweepers. Guards that had to be swept to make the hog, Take outs to be swept to make the hog, and especially the come arounds where you only had 1 foot of swing available. It was the most exhausting game of the year. I realize we had to demonstrate to the students that success only comes from hard work but krippy, we could of showed a little more in the weight department. In the end we tried to steal the eight as well and Skippy gave it a brilliant try, only off a fraction on a raise takeout. By then it didn't matter, they were well defeated and like the virtual game, their skip had a far away stare that seemed to indicate he hoped he wouldn't miss American Idol...he didn't. Mark, it is the mark of truly great teams that leave their opponents to think they could have won. This must be true because they still talked of hope and missed opportunity. Like the mouse that thinks it's free with the first toss from the cat. Sorry Rocks...you're dead. Irrelevance is a sorry state...but at least it will be quieter. Mark Pioli/CTAL/CTC 03/03/2005 01:28 PM Next time for any team communication please remember I don't have a fancy BlackBerry for games that are added to the schedule Garth you have to pick up the phone and call me. I will have to think about playing the remainder of the year, I thought about it Milinkovic your in, I quit. Garth McQueen/CTAL/CTC 03/03/2005 03:06 PM Mark: I am not one to intrude into other's responsibilities nor one's abiltiy to decipher fact from fancy. but please do not let Mike's 7-0 record intimidate you. Please forgive Mauro for not doing his skip duties but perhaps since Bruce and Mauro decided independently who was skipping, your call was overlooked.....a deeper meaning may lie behind who skips?????? Did Mauro let you know about tonight's game. Yes, Mauro is skipping. Bruce Clark/CTAL/CTC 03/03/2005 03:08 PM Correction!!! Bruce and Mauro did not decide independently. This is a very autocratic team. When Mauro says bend over, grap your ankles and smile...
