Garth McQueen/CTAL/CTC 11/04/2005 11:18 AM Subject Pioli Papers - November 3 - The Return of the Jedi Mike I know right away you will be thinking that I am Darth Vader, Jedi night turned Dark Side. It actually is another who has fallen to the ways of the dark side. Once upon a time On a rink far far away...... Actually, it was sheet #6. The Jedi force of CTFS entered into battle with the evil Whiskey Runners. Oh, they were a nefarious band of villians. Their One Armed Lead and Old Sage second were a scary combo but no match for the nimble, two armed warriors of the Front End. The Third of WR was a master curler, who was pitted against Joda Bruce of the Back End Jedi. Bruce was in combat all night with said Master and in the end I doth believe Joda Bruce was judged victorious. Mike, that only left the Jedi, Mauro Misswider of the Back End to deal with Princess Judy of the Dark Moon. Which led to this story.... Once again On a rink very near from here...... We started off well taking 2 in the first end. We all seemed comfortable and showed a glimpse of why we were C Flight champions (I think it was the 2 beers we had before the game). True to course we started to get shakey in the second and finally someone told me about the 4 guard rule after I kept brushing everything into the rings. Now, when they mentioned that we would now have to throw real guards, I had a disturbance in the force that said "oh shit" (and that was without Rex Chicken Wings). Sure enough WR took 3, and stole 1. Mark did decree that this was actually positive but I think he meant that Mauro actually saw them get the 3 points unlike last week when the Video Replay group had to call down the score for him. Ok, not to bash on Mauro but I am tired of being clobbered. In the seventh we were down 6-3 and we all had rocks in play. It came down to Mauro's last shot and I must describe it as best as I can. First of all, remember back to the old Michael Jordan, Larry Byrd commercial. Well Mauro released the rock and after hitting the side wall, bouncing off the lights over the dehumidifier, off the glass windows and then finally dropping from the girders on the ceiling, the rock rolled, and bounced and hopped then stopped. When everyone removed their hands from their eyes, there, proud as a Friday Night tent, stood 4 points for the Jedi Nights. Mauro was congratulated like the entrance of Caesar to Rome. One of the players on the next sheet remarked what a great shot that was and who made the call. I couldn't let him know it was "the force" so I said, I made the call. Mike, you would think at this point, we had the big MO but actually as it turned out we had the big MAU, who through the game had been drawn to the dark side: rock by rock, end by end and point by point. We were well positioned to steal a point for the win but as the movie showed, the dark side will always couquer those weakened by the nickel in the air. Poor Jedi Mauro Misswider, slid his last rock to the back to reward Princess Judy the opportunity to tie. WHICH THEY DID. Now, Mike I have left a lot out like the good shots of Bruce, Mark, Mauro and Myself and the bad shots of the same group. We played half decent and therefore only got half the ends (minus a half). We deserved the Tie because we didn't deserve the win. If we had off deserved the win, we would have won. (and you thought certification was confusing). I think we will have a slow start and finish strongly. All and all a good night and chance to get back at all you lying bastards.
