Garth McQueen/CTAL/CTC 11/25/2005 03:24 PM Subject Pioli Papers - Nov 23rd - The Never Ending Story Mark: First off, a belated Happy Thanksgiving. I know it is a time when you give thanks to the American dollar at double or triple the thanks. Things started off very well last night. First off, Bruce managed to remember to bring his wallet and Mauro seemed fairly lucid, being able to read the scores that would appear on the ice. Seemed ok. Oh yes, we were playing Sparrow Lakes, former A flight winner and perennial CTFS ass kicker. We were warming up for the game in fine Pioli fashion in the pregame. We had downed mass quantities of liquid (Mike and I had 2 beers each and Mauro drank 57 ice teas) and gorged on the finest delicacies. Shrimp and Burgers. Hey Mark, quick joke...What do get when you ask for shrimp and a hot dog.....yes, your right ....BRUCE.....a small wiener with a big bite. Well I guess we have to talk about the game but after the slaughter from the Zena Warriors last week, I am reluctant to write about anything. To our credit we won the toss and took 2 points in the first end. Ok, we know we're not getting skunked. Oh yes, I did forget to mention that through the blur of beer foam (that commercial on tv is actually true...when you put 4 empty beer glasses in front of your eyes you will eventually crash) Mauro wanted me to skip. Once again, the team outvoted him and he had to skip. Sensing that Mauro had already given up, I thought it would be a good time for Mike to step up a level. Since in most weeks he is very quick to call for the beheading of the Skip du Jour, I thought he better start moving up the rotation because it won't be too long before they come looking for him to skip. Ok, I got sidetracked. We were up 2 going in to the second and sure enough it was a short lived lead. They took 3 and then took 4 in the next end. As I was playing lead I found it extremely easy to leverage the 4 rock rule since I always provided them with guards (of course, when called for by the Skip). Now we are down 7-2 with the hammer. We all sensed we better score some points but the Back end seemed to have a different strategy. Seems they wanted to lull the other team to sleep and then take 6 points to win in the eighth because we proceeded to BLANK the 4th & 5th ends and almost the 6th end where we took a point by, what I would assume, bad luck. We went on to steal 1 in the 7th and went into the 8th down 7-4 without the hammer against the best team in the league. Obviously this was in our favour, because Mauro called me down to the ice and cautioned I should never throw lead again. I asked if he wanted me to throw the first one threw the house but he declined comment. I placed my 2 rocks in guard position as directed. The remaining CTFS stunk, and Sparrow Lake threw their rocks into the canal and we finished in 1hour and 35 minutes. And who said ineptitude takes a long time to accomplish. I would like to say it was a good loss but it didn't feel that way. Yes we took 4 ends but with the victory by CTFS girl's team, we remain winless in Wainfleet, Cellar Dewellers, Bottom Feeders, Loafer Oafers etc. Having a lot fun Mark, wish you were here and hope to see you soon. Boy, that lead position is sweet. Mark Pioli/CTAL/CTC 11/25/2005 03:33 PM Looks like Sparrow Lakes were the big wieeeeners last night. Beer, Shrimp and burgers sounds like Thanksgiving grub, what kind of stench did that make. Next week boys we will get on track, I am making a prediction we will WIN now if I can just find 3 other curlers.
