Mark Pioli 11/09/2007 09:22 Subject: Pioli Papers - Nov 9 2007, the replacements Due to the writers strike, I have to make this brief, I am typing this in my basement under candle light so I wont be shunned by the writers guild. The night started off with a few tears as I walked into the club house. One would think Mauro and Bruce had tears in their eyes because they were thinking of their old friend and teammate Garth who is recovering from eye surgery that had extreme complications, but no they were tears of laughter as I had my broom upside down mimicking a blind man walking with a cane pretending to be Garth. If I only had a dog the gag would of been perfect. I was a bit late to the hack, as I assumed the least Bruce could do is win the coin toss, but he called yellow again instead of heads or tails and lost the toss. I noticed the freshly pebbled ice and confirmation from the sweepers indicated slow ice, if anyone has seen a rock in the back parking lot please return to sheet 2. My next shot was better and we were off to the races. Our second last night was Shannon(I curl 100%) Reuter, after I heard the stop watch clicking on my shot I knew this was not Garth as the only sounds I hear from him are generally sounds only his proctologist should hear. Having a second that makes all the shots certainly eases the pressure on the rest of the team. Our first end was magical we made all of our shots, but we only took 1 point. The look of fear set in Mauro's eyes as he thought this was the best we could play and we only got 1 point. The potential turning point was in the 4th end, we had 3 points and possibly 4 but a measurement was needed. The 4th point would of put the game away at that point, Bruce kept trying to give the point to them but I insisted on the measurement. After a few awkward minutes Bruce asked where is the measuring stick, we all said, under the 'measuring stick' sign the sign was so big even Garth could read it. Bruce was fumbling with that measuring stick like he was trying to put a c o n d o m on for the first time. After accidentally moving the rocks around in an attempt to measure them we had to give them the point. Fortunately we sailed through the rest of the game for an impressive victory. Mauro had to leave the post game celebration early to play for the Budgell rink. Bruce and I were lucky enough to watch Mauro, who obviously forgot what color stone he was playing, play a beautiful take out on his own stone. Garth get well soon.... I hear that in xtreme cases like yourself that this should take approx.4 to 5 months. The team will endevor to carry on without you. b.t.w. the ladies team seems short of players. As part of your rehab, this might be something to consider. Best of luck with your new teammates. Garth McQueen Subject: Re: Pioli Papers - Nov 9 2007, the replacements Thank you once again for your caring notes Bruce. It would appear that if you took the kind of time you spend on these notes and apply it to measuring stones we would have had another end. That's as bad as when Mauro refuses to sweep out the opponents rocks at the back of the house. Has anyone "put it through the house" in the eigth or final end yet. And I thought Shannon's stop watch was out of batteries?? Guess you guys are playing at an A Flight level if she's got the watch back.
